Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp has received the Patriotic Employer Award.
Tripp was nominated by Corporal Matthew Brown.
The award reflects the efforts made to support reservists through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
“The recognition is for contributing to National Security and protecting liberty and freedom by supporting employee participation in America's National Guard and Reserve Force,” a news release said.
The sheriff's office currently has two active reserve members working, one a Marine and one in the Army. “We have had as many as five,” Tripp said. “We believe in individuals serving their country and thank Deputy Brown for his service to his country.”
The award was presented by the Department of the Defense and Kenneth Oppenheim, a retired Navy commander.
