
An ongoing family dispute led to a shooting in which a 72-year-old man was charged.
Detective W.C. Murphy Jr. of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Walter Harry Purnell faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
The charges stem from a shooting the evening of May 21 in which a 16-year-old victim said he was shot in the lower leg on Huckleberry Bottom Road.
The victim was transported for treatment and later released.
Murphy arrested Purnell through investigation and collecting witness statements.
Murphy declined to elaborate on the nature of the dispute.
Purnell is scheduled to appear in court June 17.
