A Hollister man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following an early morning shooting in which a woman and 8-year-old boy were shot.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said the matter occurred on Mills Road in Hollister just after midnight.
Preliminary investigation indicates domestic violence as the motive in which the 34-year-old woman was reportedly shot by Jimmy Harrison Jr. She was airlifted to a trauma unit and is in serious condition.
The 8-year-old boy was shot in the hand and was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition.
Two other children in the home escaped with no injuries and are with relatives.
Tripp declined to immediately comment on whether there has been past domestic issues involving Harrison.
