
A Monday night chase has Roanoke Rapids police looking for a Halifax man who ditched the car he was driving in a back alley.
Chief Chuck Hasty said Calvin Louis Robinson, 21, is wanted on warrants obtained by Officer Patrick Smith for flee to elude arrest; resist, delay and obstruct; carrying a concealed weapon; driving while license revoked and speeding.
The matter started when Smith was monitoring traffic around 11:45 p.m. in the area of Bolling Road and Ashton Street and observed a vehicle traveling above the 35-mile-per-hour speed limit. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and continued from there through an alley between Franklin and Vance streets where the driver ditched the vehicle and fled. Officers secured the empty vehicle.
Hasty said it is believed Robinson engaged the officer in a chase because his license was revoked.
The chief said Robinson is encouraged to surrender and take care of the charges.
