
An October 17 shooting outside Roanoke Rapids resulted in the arrest of a 26-year-old man last week.
Detective B.R. Nutt of the Halifax County sheriff’s Office charged Trayvon Purnell with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in the shooting which around 7:30 p.m. on Carver Street.
The victim received two non-life threatening injuries to the leg and was treated and later released from a medical facility.
Nutt said the shooting was the result of an argument, the nature of which she declined to speculate.
Deputies responded and located the male victim, Chief Deputy Scott Hall said in a statement.
Investigation by Nutt led to the October 20 arrest of Purnell, who has since posted $10,000 secured bond. He awaits a November 2 court date.
