Clanton returned to federal custody

Lann Clanton will be held in federal custody until his sentencing hearing after a judge revoked the conditions of his release today.

Clanton, a defendant in the Operation Rockfish police corruption case appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Kimberly A. Swank in Greenville.
While full documents of the proceedings were not immediately available in the court records, an entry of the proceedings notes Clanton appeared with his counsel and testimony was presented by the United States Attorney’s Office in support of his alleged violations, which stemmed from a matter last month in which he was arrested by Weldon police.
The court, according to the entry, found Clanton violated the conditions of his release and those conditions were revoked.
Clanton is scheduled for sentencing in March before Senior Judge Malcolm J. Howard.
According to the petition for action on conditions of pretrial release, Senior United States Probation Officer Bentley H. Massey noted Clanton has been on pretrial release since September 1, 2015.
Massey noted in the document, however, on November 26 Clanton “committed the criminal conduct of resisting a public officer.”
Massey said Clanton was arrested by Weldon Officer Q.L. Godley. “The defendant was reportedly intoxicated and belligerent to the point that the arresting officer had to subdue him with a stun gun. Additionally, Clanton violated the court ordered curfew condition, as the arrest occurred around midnight and the defendant has a curfew of 9 p.m.”
