
A Littleton man was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and other traffic offenses following a stop for speeding Tuesday.
Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Sergeant S.N. Casey was patrolling the Highway 48 area of Enfield when he stopped Gerald Lynch, 28, and reportedly detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a concealed .40-caliber handgun under the driver’s seat of the car.
Lynch was arrested and charged with felony carrying a concealed weapon and issued a citation for speeding and driving while license suspended.
He was placed in the Halifax County Detention Center under a $500 secured bond with a March 1 court date.

Task force arrest
Shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday, City County Drug Task Force agents J.R. Matthews and D.J. Hundley were conducting follow-ups on drug complaints in the Zoo Road area.
Captain A.M. Harris said in a statement agents encountered Andrew Byrd, 30, of Roanoke Rapids.
During the search Matthews found a bindle of heroin in Byrd’s boot.
Matthews arrested and charged Byrd with felony possession of heroin.
He received a $1,500 bond and March 1 court date.
Harris said this afternoon one bindle is a single dosage unit of heroin.
