A Hollister woman died in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 561 Thursday evening.
The crash occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. when Melissa Hawes, 39, ran off the road to the left, according to an initial report by Trooper J.A. Murray of the state Highway Patrol.
The vehicle struck a ditch embankment, which caused it to overturn and eject the driver.
Hawes was not wearing a seat belt. Contributing factors include exceeding the safe speed limit for existing conditions and driver inattention.
