Independence Day celebrations galore

There are several Fourth of July celebrations to choose from in the Roanoke Valley on Friday and Saturday.

Halifax will have its annual Independence Day celebration with fireworks displayed by the town's fire and rescue service.

The state Historic Site will be open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. while the program on the grounds of the courthouse off Highway 301 begins at 5:30 p.m. leading up to the 9 p.m. fireworks show.

There will be vendors and food available.

Hobgood will celebrate the holiday Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Friendship Park behind the old depot.

Featured entertainment includes JoAnn Josey; Sharon Hackney; Josh Coley; Ricky Hale; Eyes of Emiline; the Hobgood Gospel Chorus and others. Vendors will be at the event that leads up to a fireworks show.

Northampton County will celebrate Friday from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Northampton County Cultural and Wellness Center on Highway 305 outside Jackson. There will rides for children and the Band of Oz will perform. Jay Jenkins will serve as MC for the evening. The night ends with a fireworks show.

On Saturday the town of Littleton will have a Fourth of July parade that begins at 10 a.m. It begins at Lakeland Theatre Company on Mosby Avenue.

There will be two chances for fireworks on Saturday.

Weldon hosts its annual event at River Falls Park from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. There will be food and music as well as entertainment.

Eaton's Ferry Bridge will be the site for the traditional Lake Gaston fireworks show. Time is 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.
