One arrested, one sought in Thelma Road assault

A man wanted for allegedly assaulting a victim and then using his financial card at Walmart in Rocky Mount has been arrested.

Jonathan Pilgrim, 27, was arrested late this afternoon by Roanoke Rapids police on an unrelated assault call, according to a statement by Detective J.M. Clark of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Details of the Roanoke Rapids assault were not immediately available this evening.

Clark received information on the identities of Pilgrim and Marquita Williams, 22, both of Roanoke Rapids, through multiple phone calls and Crimestoppers tips after their photos were released to news outlets. Further investigation led to warrants being taken out on them from the assault and robbery that occurred in late May.

Williams has not been arrested at this point. She faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, malicious assault in secret, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, financial card theft, financial card fraud and identity theft.

The robbery took place near the Thelma Road area of Roanoke Rapids, where the victim was allegedly struck with a blunt object, followed by the theft of a debit card, cell phone, and currency.

The alleged suspects used the victim’s debit card at the Walmart in Rocky Mount at a later time, making purchases of undisclosed goods.

The victim did not receive injuries that required medical attention, Clark said this evening.

Pilgrim was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, financial card theft, and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was jailed on $21,000 bond and has a September 3 court date.
