Leads in two pizza delivery driver robbery attempts in May have turned cold, Roanoke Rapids Police Department detectives said today.
They occurred in the Southgate community, one on May 24 and the other on May 29.
The perpetrators, Detective Jeff Davis said, call for pizzas to be delivered to a fictitious address. The driver arrives and is accosted by several people. An attempt is made to rob the drivers of their money bags.
The leads have gone cold, Martin said, “Because citizens feel intimidated.”
He said the public should not feel intimidated because they can go through the anonymous Crimestoppers line to leave tips and may also request anonymity when they call 911.
Davis said police need help in solving the case.
The two robbery attempts thus far have not resulted in serious injury or loss of money, although one driver did have their eyeglasses damaged in a scuffle and a couple of drinks were taken.
“We need further leads,” Davis said. “Domino's has stopped delivering in that area at night.”
Said Martin: “It hurts citizens and hurts business. The company is trying to protect their drivers.”
