The coach of the Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets midget football team was charged today for allegedly making a bomb threat to the Halifax County Courthouse this morning.
Troy Rashawn McNair, 27, was scheduled to appear in court today on a charge of misdemeanor possession of stolen property, according to court records.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp declined to comment on the court case, but did say McNair was cooperative and gave a statement.
The bomb threat was called in shortly before 9:30 this morning from Halifax Regional Medical Center, Tripp said.
A cooperative investigation between the sheriff's office, Roanoke Rapids Police Department, Halifax County District Attorney's Office and HRMC security helped lead to McNair's arrest, Tripp said.
He was charged with false bomb report to a public building and given a $1,000 bond and a January 21 court date.
A visual search as well as a search by Deputy Chris Boden and his dog Dusko found no device.
Roanoke Rapids interim police Chief Andy Jackson said this afternoon the case McNair was scheduled to appear in court for stemmed from a report taken January of last year where the victim's license tags had been removed from their vehicle, which was parked on the side of the road at West Ninth Street.
On July 28 of this year, Officer Joey Spragins located the tags on a Ford Escape belonging to McNair.
The commissioner of the youth football program could not be reached for immediate comment.
