
A Halifax man was charged Saturday night on cocaine and marijuana counts after a sheriff's deputy stopped him for a motor vehicle violation.
Major Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a statement Sergeant Chris Boden stopped a vehicle driven by a man later identified as Patrick Torrence Warren, 43, around 8 p.m. on Hedgepeth Road near Melvin Road in the Darlington area.

During the stop, Boden reportedly detected the odor of marijuana and began to investigate.
Hall said Boden detected approximately 2 grams of marijuana and cocaine on Warren, who was charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and rear lamp violation.
Warren received a $2,000 secured bond and February 24 court date.
Lieutenant Greg Richardson, Corporal Steven Casey, Deputy Ray Chin and state Highway Patrol Trooper K.S. Rizzuto assisted in the arrest.
