Roanoke Rapids police are conducting a death investigation on Monroe Street this evening.
There were two separate crime scenes in the investigation, one in the 100 block and one near the Preston Street intersection where the victim crashed into a parked vehicle, Chief Chuck Hasty said.
The call came in around 7 p.m. as a motor vehicle collision and officers found the victim with gunshot wounds.
The victim was taken to the hospital.
Hasty said preliminary investigation indicates the victim, who he declined to name, was possibly shot in the 100 block of Monroe Street.
Whether the victim was shot inside the vehicle or outside remains under investigation, the chief said.
