A 68-year-old man drowned this evening off a cove in the Eastern Shores subdivision of Lake Gaston.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said the man's body was recovered by divers from the Littleton Volunteer Fire Department and Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad around 10:30 tonight.
The man, Thomas Christopher Boyle of Virginia Beach, was swimming in a cove when he drowned. At this point there is no explanation on circumstances that may have caused him to drown other than an accident, Tripp said.
Authorities received the call around 6 p.m. and the man had been seen about an hour before. He was out about 20 to 30 yards from a pier when he was found.
