Four nabbed following break-in

A daylight breaking and entering in the Highway 186 area between the Seaboard and Margaretsville areas came to an end this morning when the alleged suspects were caught by a state Highway Patrol trooper.

Four Enfield men — Rashad Monte Carter, 24; Robert Donta Johnson, 22; Timothy Randolph Dancy Jr., 19; and Jarvis Lavon Boone, 25 — all face charges of breaking and entering, attempted larceny, conspiracy to commit breaking and entering, possession of burglary tools and damage to property.

Captain Chuck Hasty of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office said events leading to their arrest began around 11 a.m. today when law enforcement received a report of breaking and entering call.

The victim was in a bedroom when a loud noise and footsteps were heard inside. The bedroom door was locked when the alleged suspects tried to open it. Learning someone was inside the residence, they fled.

Dancy

The victim heard a vehicle engine start and looked out the window to see it backing out and then head towards Seaboard.

The victim gave Northampton dispatchers a description of the vehicle and numerous law enforcement units responded.

Just after 11 a.m. Trooper J.D. Warren of the state Highway Patrol spotted the vehicle on Highway 301 and stopped it, with law enforcement from Gaston, Seaboard, Garysburg, the sheriff's office and other troopers backing him up.

Hasty and Investigator Bo Deloatch charged the men, who received $33,000 bonds and October 13 dates in court.

“The information that the victim provided to communications and then communications getting it out to responding law enforcement agencies helped the sheriff’s office to get these guys in custody,” Sheriff Jack Smith said in a statement. “Trooper Warren’s keen eye was the break in this case to help us solve this crime. Again it goes to show that when law enforcement works with each other we can catch the people that committed the crime.”

Hasty said this evening the men may allegedly be responsible for another breaking and entering that occurred in the same area. Investigation continues.
