The Halifax County Sheriff's Office is investigating a suspicious death in the area of Simmons and Craig streets.
Sheriff Wes Tripp said shortly after 8 a.m. an unidentified black female was found. Evidence and circumstances suggest foul play.
He declined further comment as the scene is still being processed. Investigators with Roanoke Rapids Police Department are assisting sheriff's office detectives in the matter.
